The War of the Dwarves and Dragons was a conflict that lasted 19 years in the mid-late Third Age (2570-2589) between Durin's Folk and the Dragons of the Grey Mountains.
The Dwarves lost the war, with Dáin I and his son Frór being killed, and the host of Durin's Folk forced to abandon their Ered Mithrin holdings and retreat back to the Lonely Mountain and the Iron Hills, where they lived in peace for 200 years until the coming of Smaug.
