mob difficulty category

I've made the category "Normal difficulty" instead, "Normal" is too vague a description DancesInTrees 05:03, 1 July 2007 (PDT)

Sure. I was thinking of doing that same thing with all the categories. "Elite" or "Swarm" may also at some point in the future prove to be ambiguous. So instead I was thinking about making categories such as "Swarm monsters" "Normal monsters" "Elite monsters" and such.Orions 05:29, 1 July 2007 (PDT)

template crit.

Crafting Help

For information on how to help us with crafting please check out Help:Crafting and Lotro-wiki.com:Crafting to learn what templates to use and just gives you a general idea of how we do things around here. Good luck and happy editing! If you have any questions just ask Rogue 21:25, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks :) Orions 21:27, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

IRC Chat

Lotro-wiki has an irc channel on Freenode. If you aren't familiar with IRC but you use Firefox there is a plugin you can download called Chatzilla (it makes it very easy) and we can chat, discuss, and whatever else on there without using the talk pages incessantly. I am in our channel now. Rogue 21:49, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Lol, nvm, I used IRC for 4 years while playing Ultima Online :D I'll just have to find and install mIRC :P Orions 21:51, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Excellent! I used mIRC a while back but find there's one less program I have to run.. though it feels like I run too many "chat" programs as it is :P Rogue 21:53, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Recipe Indexes

Everyone's opinion seems different here. I updated the recipe indexes to look like Tailor Apprentice Recipe Index and someone complained that it was too difficult to read and that it needs to change. The result is Metalsmith Apprentice Recipe Index. Unfortunately I haven't done this too every recipe index yet, it is somewhat of a tedious process though not bad and I am/was only 1 person. Cook Apprentice Recipe Index is a result of me tinkering because unlike most of the others that have the same ingredients in sets like tailor and metalsmith it is mostly different. Different ingredients, different craft xp, different level req in some cases. I understand that there can be too much information and there can be too little, it's a fine line. Plus one person says it's hard to read and then another says they prefer that way. We can't please everyone and I certainly don't want to keep changing it back and forth as I haven't even finished with the first changes. As far as the pictures go I feel that they add something and that at a glance they can choose which set they want when looking at a tier. I am in process of changing the images to be inside a gallery, smaller for one and not so overpowering on the page like the shields in Metalsmith Journeyman Recipe Index. I am curious to find out what your indexes would be like, what information would you provide? Perhaps we can revise them a bit and both be satisfied, so long as I don't go crazy first? :) Rogue 15:09, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

PS I am on irc so lets chat :D

Wrong Woodworker Data

Are you teasing me? I am only on the S's right now, working on the Superior mistrel instruments. And you know I was going through them, updating/adding/correcting as I go. I will get to the V's and correct that information in good time. If they are wrong once I am done, then you are more than welcome to correct them as I do not have access to the Lossoth of Forochel recipes and it is likely that I will use what is on lorebook for now. Rogue 06:50, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
No worries, :) I am here now if you want to hop back on irc. It was midnight-ish when you messaged and I had gone to bed just before. Rogue 16:21, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Quest template

Now you are going to be modifying Template:Infobox Quests correct? As this is the newer version of whats on the quest pages?Rogue 16:22, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

  • No, I'm not modifying Infobox Quests - I'm including it in the new template. So, when someone decides to change Infobox Quests for whatever reason, my new template will also be updated. --Orions 17:03, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Also, is it truly necessary to remove {{PAGENAME}} from the |disambig perameter? Does it not work within Template:Infobox Quests? If it does then ask why it does with that one and not your revised one. I ask this because we do not have an official bot to do the grunt-work in changing already created quest pages.Rogue 16:22, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

  • If we ever decide to include the infobox template in any other template the way lootbox does, then using {{PAGENAME}} will break it. That's why I'm asking not to use it - just as a precautionary measure. --Orions 17:03, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
    • It escapes me why, but xander was very clear that it must remain {{PAGENAME}}. He could have had a valid reason or it could be that was his preference, who knows. I do not know what happens if that changes. Could be nothing.
      • Ok, got it. Which makes us really sad pandas if its something more than just preference. I guess that if something breaks, we will have to revert it. --Orions 18:39, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

What is it you didn't like about the Infobox Quests template that you felt you needed to create a new template? I forget, so please remind me. :)Rogue 16:22, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

  • Infobox Quests is all right - actually I'm not changing it an inch. I just wanted the whole quest page to be a template, including descriptions, rewards, and so on. It will ease adding and managing quest articles. --Orions 17:03, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
I guess the point I was trying to make was we have a quest template already. If it doesn't work the way we want we should change that vs creating a new one, even if the new one includes this one. That in itself doesn't make sense to me in the why. I understand the how/concept but not the reasoning. Rogue 17:55, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Um, its easy - I'm liked the way new quest pages were looking and I'm not very good at building good-looking tables. --Orions 18:39, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Proposed new recipe/item indexes

Take a look at the sample indexes I created: User:Gaerlin/Sandbox/CookApprenticeRecipeIndexSample is the sample recipe index for crafters, while User:Gaerlin/Sandbox/TrailFoodIndex is the sample item index for consumers. Note how the recipe index for crafters is focused on crafting information, including craft XP gained, cost of mats for each make, and cost per XP gained per make, which will help crafters to budget their tiering up as well as quickly determine what mats are needed for which items. The item index for consumers includes no crafting information and instead focuses on the effects/stats of the items so that consumers of the items can quickly find the items that will help them the most based on their level. --Gaerlin 16:08, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
