Hi and welcome to the group of wiki-updaters. I just promoted you to Ninja which will at least take away the CAPTCHA from logging in. Good luck! — Zimoon 23:26, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

Please Wait!

I appreciate your intention to move from The North Downs to North Downs. But because I will move pages with all their contents, what you are doing right now will be replaced anyway, or maybe cause extra work. Sorry if I come across brutal, that is not my intention, just trying to avoid you wasting your time. Give me a week and North Downs is OK. — Zimoon 22:44, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

BTW, your change to Category:Trollshaws Quests were great. I was about to fix that today and was surprised it was already done. So instead I started moving Rivendell Valley to Rivendell :-) — Zimoon 22:47, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
I have done most of the needed things for North Downs now, got some extra, not-planned-for free time :P
If you see any links or alike in error, feel free to fix that, or ping me. Discord (see your "welcome message") is the best place to stay in touch. Have a great weekend! — Zimoon 21:05, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

Obsolete?

Are you certain Quest:Fallen to the Wargs is obsolete? It still exists in LotroCompanion, which is a quite reliable tool. Note that it has a prerequisite on another quest so if this has not been removed from the game that might be why you don't see it. However, I do not know what is correct here. Also, see my two edits after yours, to see what more it takes to make something obsolete ;-) — Zimoon 12:03, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

But I see now that the prerequisite quest (Quest:Family Heirloom) was made obsolete long ago so you are most likely correct. Sorry for the noise. Just look at my two edits after yours for your learning curve ;-) — Zimoon 12:17, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
It has been replaces by a quest named the same [Quest:Fallen to the Wargs (Ost Lagoros)] but with a diffrent entry.
OK, good to know :) — Zimoon 00:48, 29 January 2022 (UTC)

Quest Chains

Please see Category talk:Quest Chains about quest chains. There are two types of chains...

  • Named quest chains. They read the chain name in the in-game quest log
  • Logical chains. They are not named as such but they are part of a prerequisite chain, a quest either is as a prerequisite or it depends on another quest.

I know this is confusing to begin with but we want to present the quests and quest chains as truly as possible. A named quest-chain should be visible in the info-box of the quest, using the "questchain" parameter. Otherwise we use other tricks to tell how the dependencies work. Please read the guideline and feel free to use Discord to chat if you need advice.

See my recent changes to the A Poor Guard Quests. After checking in-game and with Lotro Companion (they agreed and usually do) there is no named quest-chain called "A Poor Guard". But those three quests are part of a very real, logical chain. Hence we use a box for those quests instead of using the quest-chain parameter. Note that named quest-chains disappeared from Lotro sometime after the Moria expansion (see the CAT:Quest Chain Talk page, I think it is mentioned there sometime like 2013). So the parameter is used just for older quests and only for named chains. We do not need to add quests of an unnamed, true and logical chain to any category. Some editors do, others do not, but it is undecided what purpose such a category would fill, as long as there is a transclusion page for the chain that is added to CAT:REGION Quest Chains.
I am very happy you verify quests which gives me, and others, time for other tasks. Just bear in mind the structure we have set up after many long discussions on talk pages and chat (which now is Discord). Yeah, I know the help and guideline pages should be improved, now they are sometimes very tall (wordy) so that the mass of words hide the important bits. But please to go through the help pages for quests and quest-chains, and then we cooperate the best way we can. I would be happy to help, either on this talk page or via Discord. Keep smiling, you are already showing you are a great study :-) — Zimoon 12:30, 29 January 2022 (UTC)
I forgot to mentioned that quest-chains, no matter named or not, are not laid out the same way on category pages as within quest-chain boxes of quests, or at dedicated pages for regional quests. Quest lists on CAT pages are meant for transclusion onto location pages, and for that we make certain the quests are correctly ordered but using a flat list, with occasional indentations for instances.
But the dependency graph we show in quest-boxes the indentation should be correct, as should bullet versus numbering. Numbering only when there is a true sequential dependency of the quests, otherwise bullets. Sometimes it becomes very tricky to get it right so please ask for advice via Discord when needed. North Downs Quests

Since I noticed you are playing North Downs, there are quite a few quests given in Treasure Hunters' Camp that claim they are chained. Lotro Companion agrees on just some of them but when LC does it is also quests re-using old names so there is a risk that in-game there exists some data for those still, that fools LC. Not sure there.

So, I wonder if you could pay extra attention to quests that have a quest-chain box and even before accepting anything figure out if #2 on the list can be taken anyway. And maybe run around outside of Fornost just to see which landscape quests you get without having done any quest from the camp.

I kindly ask since it will be a while before my next character will do the Fields of Fornost, while I am walking over all locations within North Downs right now, based on reading existing wiki stuff. I am adjusting locations to changes of their boilerplates as well as verifying some other stuff.

In case you did not know, I begun as an editor of the wiki about ten years ago but to a break after three years. So after a seven years hiatus I am back and some stuff I find a bit neglected ;-)

In looking through my completed quest log after completing and taking notes of when quests became available I noticed that none of the quests in the North Downs are listed as being part of any chain. Nothing. But many quests seem to be gated behind other quests and other quests behind those quests. Dependency is probably the clearest way to look at it. Doing quests in different orders and canceling them and having different ones to eliminate variables seems to be the most reliable way to verify the content. I have also walked character over the landscape to verify which auto bestowal quests are gated behind having other quests. The 6 Nan Wathren repeatables are clearly gated behind having the three non-repeatable chained ones. I verified that a couple different ways and two open up each time you get the next in the chain.
I too will be moving into The Tresure HUnter's Camp next to verify things.

Depending too strongly on Lotro Companion (LC), as I might do sometimes, is not the optimal strategy :-)
You seem to have done a thorough investigation, I trust that. It could be that LC cannot show those 6 being gated the first time doing the full chain, since they obviously cannot be gated the next time since the first 3 are not repeatable, right?
To me gating and dependency is the same. A curious fact is that for those old quests for which we use the "questchain" parameter, not all of them had any dependencies whatsoever. The Shire "Hot Pie Delivery" for example, the deliveries can be done in any order, it's just the starting and ending quests that have any dependencies. But it is a named chain that is visible in the Quest Log.
And then we have true chains, where one quest is gating one or more others. Or one quest depends on one or more previous quests. Either way, I am glad about the carefulness you expressed, great! Cheers! — Zimoon 21:47, 31 January 2022 (UTC)

Images

Hey, thanks for uploading all the missing images, i have noticed they sometimes contain also the selection circle. According to Help:Images the images should be free of UI elements, so please try to take them without the circle also. --Drono (talk) 09:15, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

I have seen your recent uploads for The Angle of Mitheithel, thanks a lot for your contributions! Remember to add a category to uploaded images though, so everything stays organized on this site. You can look at similar files to find the right one. For example, I added File:Prestadír (Tornhad).jpg to Category:The Angle of Mitheithel NPC Images. If you are unsure, don't hesitate to ask on a talk page or in our Discord! —RoyalKnight5 (talk) 07:13, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi BITZM2000, you have been promoted to Editor. Your contributions have not gone unnoticed. Keep up the great work!--Oakheart (talk) 21:43, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
