Tar-Palantir was the 24th and second-last King of Númenor. He tried to restore the old ways on the island during the last dark years of the realm, but failed.

Though his father was a bitter opponent of the Valar and the Elves, his mother was secretly a member of the Faithful and taught her son to be an Elf-friend.

During his reign, his nephew Ar-Pharazôn became the leader of the King's Men and opposed Tar-Palantir's policies, leading a rebellion against the old ways.

Tar-Palantir's health failed without having been able to adjust the dark fate of Númenor, and when he died, his crown passed to Ar-Pharazôn due to his marriage of Tar-Palantir's daughter Tar-Míriel.
