Bestowal Dialogue

Breaking Through
"Together, the dwarves of the Gabil'akkâ will break through the ice that blocks our passage into Gundabad!"

This way, my friend. See how my dwarves labour at the ice? Nothing stands long before my people when they set their minds and muscles to overcoming it!

Background

Durin, Prince of the Longbeards, and Ingór, Prince of the Zhélruka, have commanded their forces to break through the ice that blocks passage into Gundabad.

Objective 1

Durin wishes to observe the progress made by the dwarves of the Gabil'akkâ outside the gates of Gundabad.

Objective 2

  • Follow Durin to the dwarves labouring at the ice.

Dwarves of the Gabil'akkâ work to break through the ice that blocks passage into Gundabad.

Prince Durin says, "Let us see the progress of the Gabil'akkâ!"
Prince Durin says, "Swing those picks, my fellows!"
Prince Durin says, "We will be through this ice in no time!"

Objective 3

Bósi: 'Put your back into it, fellows! This unnatural ice cannot keep us from our goal, and it will not!
'Already I hear the ice cracking, <name>! It will not be long before we are through!'
Stóthkell: 'I ordered some of my own fellows to bring up torches, and with their help we will weaken this ice. Have I not personally seen strong metal bend and twist in the forges of the Heart of Fire? I have, <name>. So too will it be here.'
'This may be a dragon's ice, but it is ice all the same.'
Venko: 'Prince Ingór ordered that I help break through the ice alongside these Longbeards, but even without that command I would do it. Let them see the Zhélruka hold true to their word.
'Even now cracks begin to form deep in the ice! We will soon be through!'
Imák: 'I toiled long in Mordor, <name>, but this is not the same.
'It is much colder up here. '

Objective 4

  • Talk to Prince Ingór at the ice outside Gundabad
  • Durin and Ingór must not be defeated.

Prince Ingór desires to wield a sword, not a pick-axe, in service of the effort to gain entrance to Gundabad.

Prince Ingór: 'My folk toil no less than Durin's Longbeards, and I beam with pride to hear no complaint! But my skill is with the sword and not with the pick-axe. There must be another way I can aid this effort.'
The Zhélruka prince falls silent, listening closely.
'Do you hear that, <name>? Our foes deliver just such a use for my talents!'

Objective 4

  • Fight alongside Prince Ingór in defence of the labouring dwarves.
  • Durin and Ingór must not be defeated.
Prince Ingór says, "Aye, they will soon be upon us. Let us greet them first."
Prince Ingór says, "Follow me, <name>!"
Prince Durin says, "The Red Axe will provide a suitable welcome, I think!"
Prince Ingór says, "That's far enough, villain. One more step and you will be slain."
Rúvaran says, "Who thinks to command me?"
Prince Ingór says, "I am Ingór, son of Vékun and prince of the Zhélruka."
Prince Ingór says, "I command anyone I choose to command: Man, dwarf, or Elf!"
Prince Durin says, "And I am Durin, son of Thorin Stonehelm and prince of the Longbeards."
Prince Durin says, "I command the Gabil'akkâ, and we will have Gundabad once more!"
Rúvaran says, "Your warriors are led by a pair of princes?"
Rúvaran says, "A crown ill fits two heads."
Rúvaran says, "I am Rúvaran, and I say to you this:"
Rúvaran says, "You command nothing."
Rúvaran says, "The masters of Gundabad are generous to those who serve them."
Rúvaran says, "Gorgar made me a gift of his warriors."
Rúvaran says, "Orcs! Slay them, and you will be rewarded!"
Prince Durin says,"It seems Gorgar did not gift you his best Orcs, Rúvaran."
Rúvaran says, "I have loyal servants enough to deal with the like of you!"
Rúvaran says, "Enough!"
Rúvaran says, "My kill-beasts will take care of you!"
Rúvaran says, "Attack!"
Prince Ingór says, "I will watch for Rúvaran. He will find no mercy if he returns!"

Objective 4

  • Talk to Durin

Rúvaran's forces have been routed, and now Durin is eager to return to the work of breaking through the ice before Gundabad.

Durin: 'I daresay we won't see him again, but if we do he will regret it. Let Ingór keep watch for him. You and I will return to the ice and help as we may.'

Objective 5

  • Follow Durin

Durin is eager to pass beyond the ice and into Gundabad.

Prince Durin says, "Let us see how the work progresses!"
Prince Durin says, "Look there, <name>!"
Prince Durin says, "They have broken through the ice!"
Prince Durin says, "None can stop us, my people!"
Longbeard says, "Gundabad!"
Longbeard says, "For Durin!"
Longbeard says, "The Longbeards!"
Longbeard says, "Gundabad belongs to us!"
Longbeard says, "For Prince Durin and King Thorin!"
Zhélruka says, "For Ingór and the Zhélruka!"
Zhélruka says, "Gundabad! Gundabad!"
Zhélruka says, "Gundabad for the Zhélruka!"
Prince Durin says, "<name>, my friend."

Objective 6

  • Talk to Durin on the landing outside Gundabad

Durin stands on the landing before the gates of Gundabad, eager to pass into the Mountain-home.

Durin: 'This is it, <name>. Nothing stands in our way.
'Let us climb the rest of the way and pass into Gundabad, the Mountain-home of my people!'

Objective 7

  • Climb the stairs and pass through the gates into Gundabad

The gates of Gundabad lie before you, atop the stairs.

Objective 8

  • Talk to Durin inside Gundabad

At long last, Durin has entered the Mountain-home.

Durin: 'I can hardly believe it, <name>, and yet here we stand.
'Gundabad at last!'
Prince Durin says, "Look there! All of Gundabad lies before us, my friends."
Prince Durin says, "I will need your help, and that of every Longbeard, to reclaim what is ours."
