A Promise Kept
"This must be Karazgar's doing! We have to hurry!"

Background

The tunnel behind Skarháld has been cleared by an unknown interloper. Can it be that Karazgar has come to fulfil his promise?

Objective 1

  • Make your way through the tunnel to the Skarháld throne room

The Dwarves of Skarháld are in danger! You must hurry through the escape tunnel carved behind the fortress if you are to reach them before it is too late!

A Zhélruka warrior lies face-down on the ground. He is dead.
Zhélruka Warrior says, "It was... Karazgar...."
Kámat says, "<name>...."

Objective 2

  • Talk to Kámat in the throne room

Kámat has been seriously wounded and is near death.

Kámat: 'Karazgar is wounded, but still... he overmatched us....
'He left... the keep....'
Kámat breathes his last

Objective 3

  • Hurry to the exit of the keep and you may still save some lives

Karazgar has left the keep. If you hurry you might still be able to save some of the Dwarves of Skarháld.

Zhélruka Warrior says, "Karazgar did all this... on his own...."

Objective 4

Longbeard Warrior says, "<name>! I've been looking everywhere for you!"
Longbeard Warrior says, "Follow me! Durin is in danger!"
Durin says, "No more, Karazgar!"
Karazgar says, "You do not have the means to stop me, dwarf."
Karazgar says, "Look around you!"
Karazgar says, "I do not need the Frost-horde to fulfil my promise!"
Gandalf says, "What is going on here?"
Durin says, "Gandalf!"
Karazgar says, "Go back inside, old man. My business here is with dwarves."
Gandalf says, "Do not be fooled by appearances, Karazgar."
Gandalf says, "And my business is with all of Middle-earth."
Karazgar says, "I am not afraid of Wizards. Your body will bleed like any other!"
Gandalf says, "Your Master is gone."
Gandalf says, "Sauron I might have feared, but you are not Sauron."
Gandalf says, "You are one servant of the Dark Lord. One servant only."
Karazgar says, "I am greater than Sauron!"
Karazgar says, "What weapons do you think to wield against me?"
Karazgar says, "That staff? That... book?"
Karazgar says, "That book is from Mordor. Give it to me!"
Durin says, "You will get nothing from us, Karazgar, save death!"
Karazgar says, "I demand you give me that book at once!"
Gandalf says, "You came to this place with demands, Karazgar, and with promises."
Gandalf says, "Well, I too made a promise."
Gandalf says, "I promised to defend Middle-earth against Sauron and all his servants."
Gandalf says, "And now I will keep that promise!"
Gandalf says, "You are defeated, Karazgar."
Karazgar says, "Give me the book and I will go, Wizard! I will never return!"
Karazgar says, "I will abandon my claim to this land! Just give me that book!"
Durin says, "Longbeards! Zhélruka! Attack!"
Durin says, "He flees, but his mask remains."
Gandalf says, "Touch it not, Durin!"
Gandalf says, "<name>, bring the mask of Karazgar to me."
Longbeard Warrior says, "He got away from us, the coward."

Objective 5

Karazgar has come to Skarháld in fulfilment of his second promise.

Objective 6

Karazgar has escaped, but he left his mask behind.

Objective 7

  • Bring the mask of Karazgar to Gandalf

Gandalf awaits the mask of Karazgar.

The mask is cold to the touch
Gandalf: 'This mask is a relic of power, an artifact of great evil. It is not safe for any others to hold it for long. In my care, however, it will be safe.
'Karazgar has been defeated, for now. We must discuss what should be done next, for he has revealed to us something most peculiar: his desire to possess the Black Book of Mordor.'
