'While you are exploring, might I ask a favour of you? I recently took over the position of Reeve from my mother, Meregrot. I do not know how she ever kept up with all the requests, concerns, and troubles of Yondershire! I am up to an Elf's ears with things to do.

'If you have the time, would you bring the basket on the table to my mother? She is usually sitting by the river this time of day, and she is certain to be famished by now. Why, I think it has been at least two hours since our last meal.'
