The fortress of Gaervarad was once home to Ambossar, the Vandassar of Cardolan. It was used to bind the Hill-men of the region to the Dúnedain, until it was destroyed by agents of Angmar when they invaded Cardolan.

Nowadays, instead of an artifact, the ruins are home to a large band of brigands lead by 2 of the Redclaw bandit brothers.

"This crumbled ruin once housed a powerful artifact atop its tower: Ambossar, the black-veined Vandassar. Here it was the Dúnedain forged bonds of peace with the Amonedain of Cardolan. Oaths were sworn by chieftains, and the Hill-folk were made compliant... for a time.

Agents of Angmar would later destroy the tower and shatter the Vandassar, leading to the dissolution of the bonds the Hill-folk and their subsequent retaliation." — Deed
