The Elendilmir, otherwise known as the Star of Elendil, the great Star of the North Kingdom, was the name for one of two brilliant white star-shaped jewels, each set within a mithril fillet.

The first Elendilmir was passed down through the Lords of Andúnië in old Númenor, first from their forebear Silmariën, daughter of King Tar-Elendil, fourth King of Númenor. Surviving the Downfall of Númenor in S.A. 3319, it would be worn by Elendil, and then briefly by his eldest son Isildur. Alas, the great jewel was lost along with Isildur to the Anduin, during the Disaster of the Gladden Fields, in T.A. 2.

The second Elendilmir, a beautiful but nonetheless paler comparison to the original, was made in Rivendell for the Kings of Arnor, first worn by Isildur's youngest son Valandil. As the Sceptre of Annúminas was considered to be the badge of office for the northern kings instead of a crown, the Elendilmir would be worn atop their brows instead, and would be passed down Isildur's line all the way to his descendent, Aragorn II son of Arathorn. Aragorn bore the Star of Elendil during the last days of the War of the Ring, notably at the Battle of Pelennor Fields and the Battle of the Morannon. So too would he wear it at his coronation on May 1st, T.A. 3019, where he was proclaimed as High-King Elessar of the Reunited Kingdom.

Following the War of the Ring, Aragorn and Gimli searched within the abandoned Tower of Orthanc in Isengard, where they found the original Elendilmir, tucked away within a unmarked golden tube in a steel cabinet. Apparently, Saruman's agents had found it while searching the Gladden Fields, and brought it back to their master. Aragorn would bring the jewel back to Annúminas, where he would only wear it on the most special of occasions.

Adventurers today can see Aragorn bearing the second Elendilmir upon his brow following their passage through the Paths of the Dead, a precious heirloom of the gloried days of Arnor.
