Category talk:Reputation Items

I think this category should be split into "Reputation items" (or "Faction items," the formerly-traded-in, now-consumable items that increase faction rep) and "Reputation Rewards" (the stuff you can buy when you break into a new reputation tier). That might take a lot of work, though. --Moefaux (talk) 04:16, 7 April 2012 (EDT)

We recently had this discussion, when we begun cleaning up categories regarding reputation-items and also the template. No decision was made, but we kind of concluded that there are just so many (as in few) reputation-giving items per faction, compared to how many faction-rewards there are, hence it felt a bit superfluous. Categorization must not always tell the exact characteristic of the page if the category comes close enough. In this case the rep-giving items are part of the faction, as are the rewards for sale. And they are a very small group. The correct way would be two new categories under each faction-items-category: reputation-giving-items and faction-reward-items.
However, if we decide that we would have a master-category for reputation-giving items, which either contained all rep-givers, or sub-categories per faction, then we must begin with the question: "Is there a need for a category that tells us this?" Only if the reply is "yes" we may want to add this feature to the reputation-item template.
Right now I am confused which of the two you are asking about? Category for the sake of category? Or a master-category for rep-giving items? If the latter, please elaborate on which need that would fulfil.
Either way, thanks for your opinions, we are always listening and try to adapt when a need is revealed. Continue on that path! :-)
  • PS: With faction-reward-items we of course mean those you must pay for ;)
