Bestowal dialogue

'There is something you could do for me, if you insist on taking up my valuable time. Supervisor Beecher at Trestlebridge has sent word that he, too, has trouble retaining skilled labour, and the Trestlespan is in need of repair. I cannot afford to send any of my workers to aid him.

'You, however, are dispensable. Speak with Beecher in Trestlebridge and render him your assistance. If I hear from him that your work is satisfactory, I will speak with Erandir on your behalf. Ranger he may be, but he is still a friend and can grant you access to the superior workbenches of Esteldín.

'You will find Beecher north of here in Trestlebridge. I expect that he will be surveying the supports of the Trestlespan bridge.'

Background

The many construction projects underway on the Bree-fields have occupied Millicent Greenlake's time, and there is a shortage of skilled workers available to complete them.

Objective 1

Supervisor Beecher is north of here in the town of Trestlebridge. Millicent said he would be near the supports of the Trestlespan.

Millicent Greenlake at Thornley's Work-site on the Bree-fields asked you to render your aid to her friend, supervisor of construction at Trestlebridge. She mentioned that if word of your work is favourable, she could allow for your usage of the superior workbenches of Esteldín.

'Millicent has finally sent someone to aid me! Thank goodness! You'd think she would have realized that if Trestlebridge falls and the Trestlespan is taken by the Orcs, all of her work on the Bree-fields would be for naught.
'But no matter! You're here now, and for that I am grateful! Loop up here -- do you see the gaps in the side of the bridge? Raiding parties of Orcs are sometimes able to send arrows whistling through those gaps, endangering the defenders. We need to cover up those gaps, my friend!
'The Trestlespan is old, and pieces of wood are sometimes wrenched free in the wind and fall into the river. Make your way down to the water's edge and collect some of the driftwood that catches up on the rocks. Bring it back to me, and we can repair some of the breaches in the Trestlespan!'

Objective 2

Pieces of wood fall from the Trestlespan and catch up on the rocks floating in the river far below.

Supervisor Beecher has asked you to collect driftwood from the river beneath the Trestlespan.

  • Collect short pieces of driftwood (0/4)
  • Collect stout pieces of driftwood (0/4)

Objective 3

Supervisor Beecher is at Trestlebridge on the North Downs, standing among the supports of the Trestlespan.

Beecher is waiting for you to return to him with the pieces of driftwood you collected.

'I hope you didn't have too much trouble collecting these, [your name]. It is damp work, but necessary.
'I charge you now with repairing the breaches in the Trestlespan. Start at this end of the bridge and work your way through it, repairing the breaches as you come to them.
'Once you have repaired ten or so, return to me.'

Objective 4

From within the Trestlespan, you can see the breaches in its sides.

Supervisor Beecher has asked you to repair the breaches in the sides of the Trestlespan and to return to him after you have repaired ten such spaces.

  • Repair Trestlespan breaches (0/10)

Objective 5

Supervisor Beecher is at Trestlebridge on the North Downs, standing among the supports of the Trestlespan.

Beecher is waiting to hear your report of the repairs you performed on the breaches in the walls of the Trestlespan.

'Thank you for your work, [your name]! I'd like to see the Orcs try and shoot their arrows through the breaches you have patched up, my friend!'
'I think we'll be fine here for now. If you see Millicent when you return to Thornley's Work-site, be sure to tell her how pleased I have been with your work!'

Objective 6

Millicent Greenlake is at Thornley's Work-site on the Bree-fields.

Supervisor Beecher was so pleased with the work you did helping to repair the Trestlespan that he asked you to give Millicent Greenlake word of his satisfaction.

'Beecher was satisfied with your work? I see. Thank you for running this errand -- we have enough problems retaining labour here on the Bree-fields for me to send my workers to Trestlebridge, the very edge of danger. They would never return!
'I will send word to Erandir. When next you come to Esteldin, you will be permitted usage of the superior workbenches there.'
