Master of Apprentices
From Lotro-Wiki.com
The Master of Apprentices is a non-player character used to select a vocation. Almost all major cities have a Master of Apprentices.
Starting a Crafter
Characters wishing to begin crafting need to complete their respective Starter Area to enter the main game world and be at least Level 5. The character must first choose a vocation before they can begin crafting. To choose a vocation, visit the Master of Apprentices NPC in any large town. Simply speak to the Master of Apprentices and select the vocation you wish. Choosing a vocation will allow you to craft in three professions. You can change your vocation any time by speaking again to the Master of Apprentices, but doing so will erase any skill increases in your current professions that are not part of the new vocation.
Spend some time to carefully select your vocation and its associated professions. Some professions are very difficult and expensive to advance, while others are very easy. Perhaps the easiest vocation is Explorer because two of the professions (Prospector and Forester) allow gathering of resources and the third (Tailor) requires hides, which are readily available resourses.
- Easy Professions - Farmer, Prospector, Forester, Cook
- Harder Professions - Tailor, Metalsmith, Weaponsmith, Woodworker
- Very Hard Professions - Jeweller, Scholar.
All professions require resources, such as Copper Ore and Rowan Wood. Frequently, collecting resources is the activity that limits a craftsman's ability to advance. Some of the recipes in Easy Professions do not require gathered resources. Instead the Cook and Farmer professions can buy all of the needed ingredients for some recipes from a vendor. The most abundant gathered resource is hides, for example Light Hides, used for Tailoring. This is because any combat character can collect hides from animals. Production professions rely upon gathering professions, as well as other production professions, to craft items due to crafter interdependency.
In order to gather resources or craft in your profession, you will need to equip your Crafting Tool. Most professions, with the exception of Scholar, also require a Crafting Facility to perform work.
