Most common questions you read on boards or asked yourself some stage? post them here :) and I know, some questions (rac /class combos, soloability i.e.) might be tricky to answer (biased), but hey, better than nothing...

  • Q: Where do I find info about the interface?
http://www.lotrointerface.com/index.php?p=default_ui_walkthrough

  • Q: Are there interface mods like in WoW?
Not at the moment, but you can "skin" some parts of the UI (http://lotro.turbine.com/article/330 and http://www.lotrointerface.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=21 )

  • Q: Do we get mounts?
Yes, at level 35 you can buy a mount. Men and Elves get Horses. Hobbits and Dwarves get Ponies. Alternatively stable masters allow you to travel to specific destinations for a fee. You can dismount midway through a ride if you do not need to travel to the horse's final destination. Horses/Ponies cost 4 Gold 200 Silver  and are available north of Bree-Town.

  • Q: Which is the best solo character?
This depends on your play style.

  • Q: Can I solo in LOTRO?
There are many quests and content that you can do solo.
However, it is widely accepted that currently most players run out of soloable quests around mid 30s until about level 40, and again in late 40s. At those levels players will be forced to group (or engage in inefficient grinding). Some of the issue may be alleviated by patches down the road.

  • Q: What are the benefits of grouping?
Some quests will require the killing of Signature, Elite, or Elite Master monsters all of which are harder than a normal version of the same monster. Doing these quests in a group will allow you to get certain rewards as well as garner good XP. You can do these quests at a higher level solo but it is likely that you will no longer find any use for the rewards or get any appreciable amount of XP if any.

  • Q: What is the maximum number of players in a Fellowship/Raid?
6 in a Fellowship and a Raid can contain 4 Fellowships for a total of 24 players.

  • Q: How do I start trade skilling/crafting?
You can choose a Vocation, once you reach level 5, by speaking with a Master of Apprentices in a crafting center.
See also: Crafting.

  • Q: What expansions do I need in order to play?
There are no expansions at this point in time. (May, 2007)

  • Q: What are the system requirements in order to play?
According to the box, the minimum system requirements are as follows:
○ Windows XP or greater
○ Intel Pentium 4.18 GHz or equivalent
○ 512 MB RAM
○ 64 MB GeForce 3 or ATI Radeon 8500
○ 7 GB Hard Disk space
○ DirectX 9.0c

○ 56 kbps modem

  • Q: Which Operating Systems are supported?
As LoTRO is released under the Games for Windows program the following Operating Systems are supported. Windows XP and Windows Vista(32 or 64).

  • Q: What is a good server for a new player?
All servers provide the same experience.

  • Q: Which Class/Race combo do you suggest for a new player?
Depends on your play style. Many people enjoy being in the middle of the action, and a champion, guardian or burglar does well in this regard. Hunters stand back and use their bows. Captains and Lore-masters use pets. Minstrels are the main healing class and can sometimes be one of the hardest classes for a new player.

  • Q: what is a good Vocation for a new player?
Explorer is a very good gathering Vocation.

  • Q: How many characters can I have per server?
5 per server.

  • Q: How many servers are there?

  • Q: How do I PVP?
The only PvP allowed in LoTR is Monster_Play. This unique play style allows players at lvl 10 to control lvl 50 monsters. Players at lvl 40 can bring their character to the same area.

  • Q: Are there any special PVP servers?
No.

  • Q: What is the ingame currency?
100 Copper = 1 Silver
1,000 Silver = 1 Gold

  • Q: 1,000 Silver = 1 Gold? Why not the more logical 100 Silver = 1 Gold?
Good friggin' question.

  • Q: What payment options does Turbine offer (aka Credit Cards, gamecards, Invoice, Cheque)

  • Q: Is there a lot instanced content?
Depends on you definition of "a lot". However, instanced contents do exist.
