Elrond Halfelven)
Description
Elrond Halfelven is the elf lord and lore-master of Rivendell. He is found at Elrond's Library, accessible from the second floor of the Last Homely House. He is involved in many different quests.
- "Master of Rivendell, son of Eärendil and Elwing, Elrond is Middle-earth's wisest master of lore and healing. Ancient even amongst the long-lived Elves, the regal and commanding Elrond wears the greatest of the three Elf-rings, Vilya, the Ring of Air, given to him by the great Elf-king Gil-galad. Known throughout Middle-earth for his wisdom and leadership, it is Elrond who gathers the Nine to become the Fellowship and charges them with the task of aiding Frodo in his quest to destroy the One Ring. He is friend and ally to those who stand against evil in Middle-earth, although the weariness of carrying the weight of the ages-long struggle can be seen on his noble face.
- Although Elrond is called Halfelven, he is a little more elven than human. There are three pairings of elf and human in Middle-earth: Beren and Lúthien, Tuor and Idril, and Aragorn and Arwen. He is the grandson of Tuor on his father's side, and the great-grandson of Beren on his mother's side.
- Elrond was present at the Siege of Barad-dûr when Isildur (the ancestor of Aragorn) cut the One Ring from Sauron's finger. He founded Rivendell long before that even that time; during the War of the Rings Rivendell is almost five thousand years old.
- Elrond was given the choice of mortal life, or passing into the West instead of dying. He chose immortality. However, his daughter Arwen chose mortality, like Lúthien her great great-grandmother.
- In LOTRO, Elrond stands as a powerful force in leading the Free Peoples in their struggles against the gathering darkness. His refuge of Rivendell, called Imladris in Sindarin, is nestled in a protected valley at the foot of the Misty Mountains. Here, players can seek refuge to rest and heal, and to gain the knowledge and guidance of Elrond and his people." - from lotro.com article
